Poole to Weymouth is about as simple as a rail trip gets: a direct South Western Railway train with five stops and a typical time of 48 minutes. The quickest runs took 38.
Trains left Poole about twice an hour on the weekday timetable we checked, 34 of them between 06:19 and 23:38. From late morning the times are regular enough to remember, at around 17 and 40 minutes past the hour, with the 10:17 and 10:41 setting a pattern that holds until the 17:40. After that the minutes drift, but there are still two trains an hour.
Earlier in the morning the departures were 06:19, 06:53, 07:20, 07:59, 08:17, 09:01, 09:17 and 09:52. In the evening the half-hourly rhythm continues until about half past nine, and then come three hourly trains at 21:38, 22:38 and 23:38, the latest we found. That late finish means an evening out in Poole before heading to Weymouth needs no special planning, as long as you know which of those three you are aiming for.
The ten-minute gap between a typical run and the quickest one reflects different trains on the same route rather than anything you can control, so if the timing is tight, look at the journey length of the specific departure.
On the road it is 32 miles by the A35, and the drive takes about 48 minutes, the same as a typical train. Neither has an edge on time, so the decision is really about whether you need a car at the Weymouth end.
At Weymouth, St Mary Street in the town centre is roughly 890 metres from the station: twelve minutes’ walk, give or take.
Journey times and changes below come from the rail and bus timetables for Tuesday 1 December 2026. Weekend and holiday timetables differ, so check the day you travel.
